SSJID: Providing Schools, Teachers and Children with Water & Power Education
SSJID makes presentations, conducts tours and provides resources to enhance curricula used to teach children in Escalon, Manteca and Ripon about water, hydropower, conservation and many other related topics. This includes:

- Presentations at annual San Joaquin County Office of Education’s Ag Day at Manteca Unified.
- Presentations at annual Manteca Unified School District’s Planet Party Day.
- Presentations at numerous elementary schools’ “Agriculture” or “Farm Days”.
- Tours of Tulloch Dam/Powerhouse and across Goodwin Dam near Knights Ferry (limited availability).
- Free “Splasher” canal safety coloring books for grades 3-4 in Manteca, Ripon, Escalon and private schools throughout the district.

These activities are provided on a pre-scheduled basis. Please make requests with as much advance notice as possible. Not all requests can be honored due to scheduling conflicts.

Presentations can include SSJID’s Water Model, which is a miniature scale model of SSJID’s watershed on the Stanislaus River. We also provide tour opportunities for area schools and colleges.

Salmon life cycle animation
Discover the different habitats on which salmon depend and the natural and human-made challenges they face throughout their lives. This animation was developed in partnership with the Pacific Northwest College of Art and the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation and complements our An Incredible Journey series.
Other Fun Downloads
Curriculum – An Incredible Journey for grades 4-5. Ten hands-on lesson plans that explore the salmon life cycle and the cultural, environmental and economic importance of salmon.
Board Game (available in Spanish) – Salmon Survival Board game. Walk participants through the salmon life cycle. During each life stage, participants attempt to survive the natural and human-made challenges salmon face.
Children’s Book (available in Spanish) – An Incredible Journey children’s book introduces elementary schoolers to the salmon life cycle and other concepts.
